Alice – Version 2.0.0 EN (Bluetooth)

With Version 2.0.0 DE (Bluetooth), Alice gets exactly what many have been waiting for: wireless sound. From now on, Alice plays its tones, voices and word lists directly to Bluetooth speakers or headphones – no cable clutter, no fiddling. Tap, pair, enjoy.

Why this update is a big deal:

Until now, the sound stayed wherever Alice was sitting. With Bluetooth, the whole room becomes the stage: place a speaker exactly where you need it – and let Alice speak while you move around freely.
The new audio engine in the background (with buffering and resampling) ensures stable, glitch-free playback – even with mixed WAV formats.

Highlights at a glance:

BT icon on the main screen
One tap is all it takes: you’re in the new Bluetooth menu.

Start pairing – smart scan

Alice scans the area and shows found Bluetooth speakers & headphones in a list.
→ Tap the device, press “Connect”, done.
→ PIN entry only if needed.

Some devices ask for a code. Use the built-in numeric keypad to enter
e.g. 0000 or 1234.

Clear status feedback

White = Bluetooth off
Yellow = Scan/Pairing active
Blue = connected

Additionally, you’ll see in the menu:

“Connected to: <device name>” or “Connecting…”.

Stable audio playback:

A new buffering and resampling logic ensures clean, continuous output – regardless of whether your WAVs are, for example, 22.05 kHz or 44.1 kHz.

Quick disconnect:

One tap on “Disconnect” – and Alice instantly switches back to the built-in speaker.

How to pair a speaker (in 30 seconds)

  1. Tap the BT icon on the main screen → Bluetooth menu.

  2. Tap “Start pairing”.

  3. Press and hold the speaker’s pairing button until the box is in pairing mode (LED blinking).

  4. Tap the box in the list → “Connect”.

  5. After a few seconds you’ll see: “Connected to: <speaker name>”, the BT icon lights up blue – sound is now wireless.

Note:

Alice sends audio to speakers/headphones (A2DP source).
Streaming from a smartphone to Alice is not supported.

What changes in everyday use:

More flexible sound:
Place the speaker where it works best – not where the cable reaches.

Better intelligibility:
More presence, clearer voice in the exact corner of the room you want.

More comfort:
Everything via touch – no apps, no configuration.

Battery & operation:

Bluetooth uses a bit of extra energy – depending on brightness/volume you can roughly expect about 10–25% shorter runtime if permanently connected.
For long sessions, you can simply connect Alice to a power bank via USB-C (operation while charging is possible).

Safety & reliability:

Signature-verified update:
The firmware is verified when it is installed.
Update via USB: directly – no SD card flashing required.

Robust audio engine:
Background buffering against dropouts, automatic adaptation to common WAV formats.

Frequently asked questions:

My speaker asks for a code – what should I do?

Enter the code on the numeric keypad (often 0000 or 1234) and tap “Connect”.

No device in the list?

Make sure the speaker is in pairing mode and tap “Rescan”. Keep the speaker and Alice close to each other.

No sound, even though it says connected?

  • Check the volume on Alice and on the speaker.

  • Tap “Disconnect” once and reconnect.

  • Test with the short test tone or a word – this way you’ll immediately hear if the connection is working.

Can I switch back to the internal speaker?

Yes – tap “Disconnect” in the Bluetooth menu. Alice will instantly play internally again.
